The Yachtsman Steakhouse is a New England style steakhouse located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. It’s been on my list to get to for many years and finally my husband and I visited on a Friday night in August. It was well worth the wait!
The Location & Drinks
When you enter you first see the special dry aging room to your left and open kitchen directly ahead. You’re then taken to the right into the main dining room which has a nautical theme. Two additional dining areas are beyond but we were seated right in the main area.
The wine list was pretty extensive and I settled on a glass of the Tapestry Red Blend from Beaulieu Vineyard in Napa while my husband got his usual Bourbon Old Fashion. BUT! It was fixed with Knob Creek Disney Select Single Barrel Reserve… who knew Disney had their own special bourbon? What a magical touch!
While we browsed the menu we enjoyed warm fresh bread accompanied by roasted garlic and homemade butter – both delicious. Our waiter was very helpful in outlining some signature Yachtsman meals as well as his favorites.
Food at the Yachtsman
We started with a heirloom tomato appetizer including fresh-made goat cheese, prosciutto and brioche toast. The tomatoes were drizzled with honey & balsamic and one larger tomato was halved, coated with sugar and flamed just like you would have on crème brûlée. Brilliant!. The sweet and savory mix with the goat cheese and prosciutto was mouthwatering. We can’t wait to try this at home on our garden tomatoes!!
For dinners we both got steaks, how could you not? Matt chose the ribeye accompanied with bone marrow and a baked potato. I chose the filet mignon in a red wine demi glaze served with potatoes au gratin and we ordered a side dish of sautéed mushrooms. Any of the starch sides are completely interchangeable. If you want garlic mashed potatoes instead of baked, ask for it – they will definitely accommodate!
To say this meal was amazing was an understatement. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly to our liking and ordering. The flavors of the side dishes were superb. The service & ambiance were great. We will most definitely be back and cannot believe it took us so many Disney trips to get there. The Yachtsman at Disney’s Yacht Club has made my top 5 restaurants list on property!
Know Before You Go
There is a dress code as this is a signature dining experience. No hats, tank tops, swimsuit cover-ups are allowed among a few others noted on the Disney website.
They do have items besides steak so if you’re not a red meat lover, don’t shy away.
This is a family friendly restaurant even though it’s on the nicer side.
Make reservations up to 180 days in advance. Even though some resort restaurants don’t book as quickly as the theme park options, I still always recommend having a reservation.
