The Wedding Selection Process

Disney Wedding Pavilion May 2016 Wedding

How Does Disney Book Weddings?

If you’re like me you might’ve thought Disney Weddings were booked years in advance and it would be impossible to be scheduled on their calendar. But let me tell you, I was way off.

In order to accommodate the most brides, and ensure space is available for conventions held on property, Disney doesn’t book weddings out more than 1 year in advance! As I mentioned in a previous post, our information session was in early May 2015 which put us in a great position to request dates in later May for the following year or beyond.

Basically each week the wedding consultants sit and look at all potential requests for that week a year ahead, taking into consideration any large conferences booked or on-property events that might interfere with venues such as Run Disney events, Food & Wine weekend, or holidays. They do their best to accommodate everyone’s requests, but of course this is easier when the Bride & Groom are a little flexible with date, time, location, or any combo of the above.

Our Disney Wedding Requests

To give you some insight, for our requests we put in May 21st at 2:30 PM as first choice, May 14th at 2:30 as second choice, May 21st at 5:00 PM third choice, and May 14th at 5:00 as fourth choice. For all cases we listed the Wedding Pavilion as our ceremony location and the St. Augustine Room at the Grand Floridian for our reception.

Naturally since the 14th occurs before the 21st we found out about our Plan B option first.  We received word that the 14th at 2:30 was being held for us, but would be given away to another Bride’s request pending our top choice being available. Then we had to anxiously wait to officially confirm our wedding day. Would we get it?? Or would it be the 14th??

Our Wedding Consultant was helpful to whisper that there were no other Wishes requests for the 2:30 PM ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion, but of course that was always subject to change at any moment.  We were hopeful but tried to be realistic too! Memorial Day Weekend was in the middle of this planning timeframe so we ended up not hearing until early June but we were confirmed… May 21st at 2:30! We were so lucky to receive our first choices.

Our date was only tentatively held until we signed our contract with Disney and put down a deposit so we were sure to review the contract, read the fine print, and provide our deposit money as quickly as we could.   Then the real planning begun!
